The Rules of the Game in Georgia
Here's what you NEED to know to stay eligible and protected:
DISCLOSURE IS MANDATORY. Every NIL contract you sign MUST be disclosed to your school's designated official. No exceptions. This isn't about asking permission: it's about transparency. Your school can flag conflicts with existing policies, but they have to show you EXACTLY what conflicts exist.
YOU CAN HIRE REPRESENTATION. Want an agent or lawyer to review contracts? Do it. Georgia law gives you the RIGHT to professional help managing your NIL deals. Smart athletes don't go it alone.
TEAM POOLING IS LEGAL. Some schools allow athletes to contribute a portion of NIL earnings to benefit former student athletes. If you choose to participate, you CANNOT be forced to contribute more than 75% of your NIL compensation. That remaining 25%? That's YOURS.
NEW PROTECTIONS: House Bill 383
In February 2026, Georgia passed HB 383 with unanimous support. This changes EVERYTHING for high school athletes in Atlanta and across the state.
YOUR CONTRACTS EXPIRE WHEN YOU GRADUATE. Any sponsorship deal you sign as a high school athlete gets NULLIFIED after graduation or when you leave high school. This protects you from predatory long-term contracts that could haunt you in college. You're not locked in forever: you get a FRESH START.
NO WEAPONS OR VICE PRODUCTS. You CANNOT endorse alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, pornography, or weapons. This keeps you clean, keeps you eligible, and keeps your future opportunities WIDE OPEN.
